Hey everyone,
It’s been great seeing a lot of our patients visiting us for an eye test in the past week. We hope to see more of you soon.
A lot of our patients suffer from dry eyes and we were wondering if there is anything more that we can do for our patients. We have always known of the wound healing and anti-bacterial properties of honey but how does this help our dry eyes?
A recent research trial conducted at the Queensland University of Technology School of Optometry has found eye drops that contained honey as one of its active ingredients improves the symptoms of dry eyes as well as blepharitis. Patients used less eye lubricants while using Optimel Antibacterial Manuka Eye Gel or Optimel Manuka+ Dry Eye Drops and said their eyes felt better and not gritty. Most chose to continue using the honey treatments after the study concluded.
Associate Professor Katrina Schmid said, “It’s a novel treatment for dry eyes because it has both anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and has a different mechanism from those of other products.” Professor Schmid also said she had received relief for her own dry eye from the product and used the gel before bed and during the day when needed.
Thus, it is with great excitement to announce that Eyecare Network is now a stockist of Optimel Antibacterial Manuka Eye Gel or Optimel Manuka+ Dry Eye Drops.
However, if you are suffering from dry eyes it is important to have a proper examination first so that we can determine the best treatment specifically for your dry eyes. We would also like to discuss lifestyle factors such as work environment, digital devices usage that can also contribute to dry eyes.
