As we grow our eyeball length increases, if this increase is more than normal as seen in people with short-sightedness, it can lead to threatening eye diseases in the future.
So the more short-sighted you become, the longer your eyeball grows.
How does this increase the risk of developing eye diseases? Imagine a balloon that’s being blown into, the more the ball lengthens the thinner the rubber becomes and the higher the chance of the balloon having a tear or rip. Like the balloon, the longer our eye becomes, the thinner the retinal tissue becomes and the higher the chance of a retinal tear or detachment.
By measuring the length of your eye at each visit we can better monitor your eyeball length, better monitor your short-sightedness and take precaution measures or advise of any needed treatment.
It’s non-invasive and only takes 10 seconds to take a reading! We can’t wait to offer this to our patients and take your eye exam experience to the next level.
