This amazing eye drop that magically removes the redness from your eyes, making it appear whiter and brighter. Who doesn’t want that? But what is the trade off?
Visine is a vasoconstrictor, which means it artificially constricts the blood vessels of the eyes so tight and squeezes all the blood out so your eyes appear white again. This does not treat the underlying cause of your red eyes but instead just makes your eyes look white and ‘normal’👁.
This lasts for about 90 minutes before your blood vessels dilate back to their normal size (or even more!) – what we call the ‘rebound redness’. Using Visine over a prolonged period can cause this rebound redness to become the default condition of your eyes.
If this isn’t enough of a turn off, you’re also dropping a bunch of preservatives into your eyes, and if you’re a frequent user of Visine, this can cause irritation and inflammation, leading to even more redness.
The best way to get rid of redness is to see your optometrist to treat the underlying cause, resulting in healthier happier eyes!
