OCT, Ocular Coherence Tomography
OCT has become the Gold Standard non-invasive technique for diagnosis and managing glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration. Being like a “CT” scan of the eye, this technology allows our Optometrist to scan the eye in 3-D and allows us to see deeper into the inside layers of the eye. It is used to measure with precision, the thickness of each layer of the eye. The results allow our Optometrist to accurately diagnose and monitor progression of glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration.
Are all OCTs the same?
No. Older models do not measure the ganglion cell layer of the retina, which is important in the early detection of glaucoma. Eyecare Network only carry the latest models and Yes, our machines specifically measure the ganglion cell layer of the retina.
Is there a fee involved?
Yes. To find out the current fee, please contact our friendly staff for more information.
Visual Field Testing
As the name suggests, this technology allows us to examine your field of vision. In essence we are checking for any blind spots or depressions in your field of vision. This is mostly used for the detection and management of glaucoma, macular degeneration and neurological conditions. Eyecare Network carries the Zeiss Humphreys Visual Fields Analyser which is the Gold Standard visual field machine that has been extensively used in large scale international glaucoma studies for the last 15+ years.
It is also the only machine approved by the RMS (Roads and Maritime Services) to perform the Esterman Visual Field test for a commercial driver’s license. Please contact our friendly staff to find out more information or to make an appointment for a visual fields exam.
Corneal Topography is a non-invasive imaging technique to measure and map the surface of the cornea (the outer window to the eye). It is used in the diagnosis and management of Keratoconus and the fitting of Ortho K contact lenses. All our Eyecare Network practices carry the Medmont Corneal Topographer, which is regarded as the gold standard.
Digital Eye Strain Management
In today’s digital world, we are spending more and more time on the computer, tablets, e-readers, mobiles and other electronic devices. ‘Digital Eye Strain’, DES refers to eye discomfort and vision problems resulting from viewing digital screens. Symptoms of DES include tired eyes, headaches, burning, red, dry eyes, blurred vision, loss of concentration and fatigue.
Although it is not visually debilitating, it can be a nuisance and affects work productivity. Time and time again, university studies have shown digital eye strain to result in significant lower work productivity. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms, please do not put up with them and please contact our friendly staff to book and appointment with our Optometrist.
